The Stansvik Village Association has been defending the forest for twenty years. The area contains hundreds of years of untouched forest and a significant number of endangered species such as bats, dwarfs and mosses. Last summer, a flying squirrel was also spotted in the area. Nature surveys are still largely ongoing.
The situation in Stansvik was reversed two years ago when work was about to start on a park. There was widespread opposition to building on the site. This was also the start of the "Kaadetaan kaava, ei metsää" campaign against building in the forests. Eventually, the City of Helsinki Council decided to re-evaluate the plan.
"We have used all possible means of citizen participation. We have met decision-makers, communicated, organised events and actively sought alternative solutions. If these tools can't save such a valuable forest, I don't know if it's possible anywhere. It will be really frustrating if, despite everything, construction starts now!"
Join us to oppose environmentally harmful policies!
There will be direct action and camping in and for the scenic forest.
The blockade starts early in the morning on 9 October and will continue as long as needed. You can come along as a green support role or as a participant, red light blockers are also welcome. We aim to keep the camp in Stansvik for the long term.
Registration for this action is not possible at the moment.
Join us in protecting Stasvik as a supporter!
-Stasvik aims to have a long-term camp, so all support roles are needed. You can get the information you need for the roles from the briefings on the spot and from the internal communication channels you can access once you have signed up. Here you can sign up for the following support roles:
-The police contact will act as a liaison between the protesters and the police.
-Wellbeing and catering persons look after the wellbeing of the protesters, taking care of the practical needs of the camp.
-Harassment liaison person to help in cases of harassment.
-A first-aid personnel provides first aid.
-De-escalator and outreach workers to calm and talk to outsiders at the demonstration site.
If there are arrests, jail support is also needed. Registration for jail supporter team can be found in a separate section on metsakapina.fi.
This role has 37 participants so far.
